UCREST MAKES EYE HEALTH CHECKS ACCESSIBLE AND AFFORDABLE USING AI
PETALING JAYA, 18 JUNE 2024 – UCrest Berhad (“UCrest”, ACE Market: 0005) announced today that it has launched iMedic Optics™, the eye health screening and diagnosis product using Artificial Intelligence (AI) technology to process retinal images from the fundus camera. The product is launched concurrently in Asia and the US market.
iMedic Optics™ is the AI technology that can diagnose several eye diseases including Age-related Macular Degeneration (AMD), Glaucoma, Diabetic Retinopathy (DR) with more than 10 various eye conditions in seconds from the images of the retina uploaded from the fundus camera.
These are the eye diseases that can lead to loss of vision and blindness. Early detection is necessary for preventive measures or treatment to be taken to delay further deterioration. iMedic Optics™ will be able to diagnose with high precision automatically and predicting the development of the eye diseases of the patients with AI, allowing early preventive measures to be taken.
It is estimated that 30% of the population will suffer loss of vision and blindness in their lifetime. About 4%, 6% and 10% of population of age between 40-49, 50-59, and 60-69 respectively suffer from at least one of these diseases. 1 in 3 senior population aged 80 and above has one or more of these diseases.
Recent studies show that about 80 milliom people globally suffer from Glaucoma, estimated 200 million people have AMD and approximately 257 milliom people have Diabetic Retinopathy out of approximately 8 billion people globally. The market size of these diseases combined is more than USD30 billion in 2023.
According to IDF, about 9.3% of population in Malaysia or 3.1 million people have diabetes and approximately 1.03 million people suffer from DR, about 500,000 people have Glaucoma and AMD each that suffer loss of vision and blindness.
In addition to these three major eye diseases that can be captured in the fundus image, iMedic Optics™ can diagnose more than 10 various eye conditions currently up to 100% accuracy consistently with the patent pending proprietary methodology and algorithm as any false diagnosis may result in severe consequences.
Screening of eye health has generally been left out in the health screening process. This is largely due to cost and access to the limited number of ophthalmologists. Having iMedic Optics™ available to optometrists, GP clinics, ophthalmologists and hospitals resolves the affordability and accessibility.
